Hot take: I thought code comments were a waste of time until a bug cost me 3 hours in Denver
I used to delete comments from my practice files because they felt like clutter, and I figured the code speaks for itself. Last week I came back to a 40 line Python script I wrote in Denver and could not remember why I put a loop inside a loop, so I lost 3 hours retracing my own steps. Now I add one plain English line above anything tricky, like what a number means or why I skipped an item. What is the dumbest bug that finally made you start commenting your own code?
