Spent $400 on a fancy end mill set that chipped on the third aluminum job
I figured paying more would get me better tool life but nope, it snapped during a simple contour pass. Anyone else had a pricey tool fail way faster than expected?

Holy crap, three jobs? That's insane for a $400 set. I've got a cheap $60 Chinese set that's been through at least forty aluminum parts and they're still going strong. What brand was it, if you don't mind me asking? I gotta know which one to avoid. Something sounds really off though, like maybe it was a bad batch or a counterfeit. I'd be blowing up their customer service line immediately.

@diana55 makes a good point about the cheap Chinese sets. Read a forum post where a guy tested $60 vs $300 end mills side by side on aluminum. The expensive ones actually wore out faster in his test. Something about the coatings not matching the speeds and feeds. Maybe that's what happened with your $400 set.
