Overheard a guy at the parts counter say he never uses coolant mist anymore
He said it just clogs up his filters and makes a mess, so he switched to a light compressed air blast instead. Has anyone else tried going without coolant for aluminum parts, or is that just asking for trouble?

Ran a Bridgeport for three years straight with no coolant on aluminum. Just a quick burst of shop air every few passes to clear the chips. Only caught me once when a chip welded itself to a tool and I had to stop and scrape it off with a razor blade. For lighter cuts it works fine, but if you're pushing feed rates it gets risky.

Sounds like you were one scrape away from a very expensive lesson there.
