Old timer's tap fluid trick saved my thread job on Monday
Had a stainless job that kept tearing threads, 3 out of 10 parts failing. My buddy who ran a shop in Toledo since the 80s told me to mix 2 parts cutting oil with 1 part WD-40 and pre-swab the tap before every pass. I thought he was full of it, but I tried it on the next batch of 50 parts. Zero torn threads, and the taps lasted twice as long too. Turns out the thinning lets the fluid get deeper into the flute, something about surface tension I never bothered to learn. Anyone else got a weird fluid combo that actually works, or am I just lucky here?
