My foreman insisted I run a 1/4 inch end mill at 2500 rpm on aluminum, and it chattered like crazy.

Switched it to 1800 with a heavier chip load like the old guy in the next bay suggested, and the finish is perfect now. What's the worst piece of speed/feed advice you've ever gotten?

What if the chatter wasn't from the speed but from a worn-out tool holder? Sometimes a higher rpm is right, but other machine issues make it sound wrong. Your foreman might have been working with a different setup that actually needed that speed.

Yeah that heavier chip load trick saved me too on a job last month.

But the old guy's fix worked, so maybe the tool holder was fine?
