Finally got a stubborn chatter to stop on a 316 stainless job
Tbh, I tried a 3/8 ball nose at 8500 rpm and 45 ipm after three failed setups. Anyone else have a go-to fix for that high-pitched squeal on deep pockets?

Honestly, that feed seems a bit high for a ball nose in 316, even at that RPM. I'd drop it to maybe 25-30 ipm and use a more aggressive stepover to let the tool cut cleaner. That squeal is usually the tool rubbing, not cutting. Did you try a variable helix end mill?

Is the squeal really that big of a deal though? Sounds like it's just a noisy cut, not like the tool is gonna explode lol.

Ugh, that squeal drives me nuts! It's like when your car makes a weird noise and you just know something's wearing out way too fast. You ever notice how bad sounds usually mean bad things are happening?
