Everyone says climb mill everything, but my finish got WORSE on 1018
Ran a 1/2 inch 4 flute carbide at 2800 rpm doing climb passes on a batch of 1018 brackets last week and the finish looked smeared and shiny, so I flipped to conventional for the last 0.01 and got a way cleaner cut, which makes me think the "climb is always better" thing only holds when your machine has zero backlash and mine sure doesn't, so what are you guys actually running on older mills with a little slop in the screws?
