Dropped $500 on a digital edge finder, went back to my old wiggle method
I bought a nice digital edge finder about 3 months ago cause I was tired of the old mechanical style grabbing and spinning off. Paid $500 for a name brand one with a probe kit. First week it was great, super accurate on the mill. Then it started throwing false readings whenever coolant got near the contacts. Also the battery died at the worst time on a job with tight tolerances in Phoenix. I spent more time cleaning the thing than using it. Went back to my old wiggle touch method with a piece of paper and never looked back. Has anyone else had luck with these newer non-contact probes or did I just get a lemon?
