A QC guy in Ohio changed how I check my offsets
Last Thursday I was running a job for a new customer and the QC guy came over to my machine. He watched me set my tool offsets and asked why I was zeroing off the corner of the stock instead of the actual datum point on the print. I told him that's how my old boss taught me, and he just said, “That's why you’ve been chasing tenths all day.” He showed me his method using a known gauge block and a touch probe, took about 5 minutes to set up. I ran the next 50 parts without a single reject. Ever since I switched my routine, I’ve been wondering why nobody in my last shop ever brought this up. Has anyone else had a customer inspector point out a basic habit you should have fixed years ago?
