Why does nobody talk about how much spot colors cost

I was quoting a job for a local bakery last month and realized their logo uses 3 Pantone colors. Looked up the ink cost and it was like $80 more per thousand sheets compared to just using CMYK builds. Found that figure on a print cost calculator from a forum I can't remember the name of. Has anyone else run into sticker shock when a client insists on spot colors for small runs?

Gotta check that calculator again, $80 per thousand seems way too low for spot colors.
