Vent: my lawn stripes disappeared 3 weeks after I switched to a mulching blade
I mowed every Sunday in July with the same mower, same height, same path and the yard in Franklin went from a checkerboard to flat green in under a month. The striped look actually comes from the deck bending the grass blades one way, and mulching chops the clippings fine enough that they just fall straight back down and stand up again. Anyone figured out a workaround, or do I just go back to bagging like some kind of chump?
Is it really that big a deal though? Grass is grass at the end of the day, and a green lawn that gets cut every week is already better than what most people have. The stripes are nice for about a day anyway, then the sun and dew mess them up no matter what blade you use. Seems like you are trading one small thing for easier mowing and free fertilizer, which sounds like a win to me. Going back to bagging just to get some lines back feels like a lot of work for a look nobody but you really notices.
