Pro tip: a press guy in Reno asked if my blacks were rich or just heavy, and I finally fixed my flyers
I sent a 4 page flyer to a small shop in Reno last month and the owner called me back with one question I could not answer. He asked if my black text was 100K or a rich black build, and when I checked, half my headline text was sitting at 100/100/100/100 by accident. The type looked fuzzy and slightly green on press, and he said that build on small text is a classic way to get misregistration showing on every edge. So now I go through my file and set all body copy to 0/0/0/100 and only keep rich black for big solid areas and photos. I also started handing over a one page sheet listing every spot color and build I used, which has killed about 5 rounds of back and forth emails. Do you all convert to 100K before export or leave it and hope the printer catches it?
