Hot take: I picked a cheap online color profile over the $400 calibration kit and my last flyer run proves it
My old shop had a $400 X-Rite kit sitting in a drawer and I always skipped it to just use the free sRGB profile that came with the printer. Last month a client's logo came back from the offset place in Columbus with the orange looking like burnt pumpkin, and I ate $180 reprinting 500 flyers. Turns out my monitor was pushing way too much red and the free profile never caught it, so now I'm stuck doing test strips before every job. Has anyone here had luck with a cheap calibrator under $100, or am I just better off paying the shop to proof it first?
