The week I finally nailed a true kelly green for 144 shirts, then watched it all fall apart in the dryer
Back in 2019 I had a stretch that felt like everything clicked. A roller derby team in Columbus ordered 144 shirts and they wanted this deep kelly green that had kicked my butt for months. I had been mixing my own ink by eye like an idiot, and out of nowhere I got it right on the third pull, just a tiny bit more blue and a hair less yellow than my usual recipe. The shirts looked amazing off the press, I was doing a little happy dance in the shop at like 11 at night. Then the team washed them before their first bout and half came back looking like faded mint gum. Turns out my cure temp was off by almost 20 degrees because my heat gun was reading wrong the whole time. I stood there holding a shirt that looked ten years old and just laughed at how fast a good week can turn. Now I keep two thermometers in the shop, but I still think about that green. Has anyone found a cure temp checker that actually stays accurate longer than a year?
