Vent: my black and white poster kept coming out with a green tint until I caught the paper setting
Spent two nights last week fighting a grayscale poster that kept printing with this sickly green cast on our office laser, and I kept blaming the toner. Turns out the paper type in the driver was set to recycled, which runs hotter and cooks the black unevenly. Switched it back to plain, ran one test sheet, and the gray was clean on the first try. Feels dumb now, but back when I started in '09 the old machines just had one dumb paper button and never did this. Anyone else get burned by a paper setting they didn't even know was there?
Two nights on a grayscale poster though? That seems like a lot of effort for one print job. Honestly the green tint might have looked kind of cool, like an artsy choice nobody asked for. Paper settings are one of those things nobody reads, so I get why it got you, but the real lesson here is that test sheets exist for a reason. A single cheap page up front would have saved you both nights. Recycled paper running hotter makes some sense, but I still wouldn't call a slightly off gray an emergency.
