Shoutout to the guy in Fresno who said my color profiles were garbage
For 3 years I soft proofed everything on a $200 office monitor and blamed the printer every time my oranges came out flat. Then a press operator in Fresno pulled up the same file on his calibrated screen next to mine, and the difference was so bad I almost packed up my stuff and left. So now I'm wondering, how many of you actually spend the money on a real calibration setup, or do you just eyeball it and hope the client doesn't notice?
A $200 office monitor can still get you close if you set it up right. I've seen people drop $400 on a calibrator and still ship flat oranges because they never checked the paper profile or the lighting in their room. The Fresno guy probably had a better handle on his whole workflow, not just fancier gear. Your mileage may vary, but a cheap screen plus good habits beat expensive gear with sloppy habits most days.
