Can we talk about fixing color in the file vs fixing it on the press?
Ngl I got into a heated thing with a guy at my local print shop in Portland last week over exactly this. We had a job where a client's orange logo kept coming out muddy brown on the proof, and my instinct was to fix it in the file, tweak the CMYK values, drop the K a bit, and send it back. He argued the smarter move was to leave the file alone and just adjust the ink density on the press, since the press guy knows the machine better than I do. I picked the file route, 2 rounds of tweaks, and the orange came out decent but a touch flat compared to what the client wanted. Part of me still thinks the press adjustment would have kept more punch and saved me a day of back and forth emails. But then I think about all the times a press guy told me they cannot hit a color because the file was built weird in the first place. So where do you all land, do you trust the file or trust the press? Curious if anyone has a rule for when to do which.
