The moment I realized my to-do list was just a stress list
I used to write down every tiny thing, like 'water plant' and 'reply to Karen', and then feel awful at 5pm because half of it wasn't done. Last Tuesday I counted 14 items on my list and realized 6 of those were things I'd already finished that just never got crossed off. That's when it hit me: my list wasn't helping me plan, it was just a record of everything I hadn't done yet. Now I only write down 3 things max for the day, and the rest go on a 'maybe later this week' sticky note that I throw away on Friday. It sounds dumb but the panic in my chest is gone, I actually finish what I commit to. Have you tried limiting your daily tasks too, or do you need the full list to feel in control?
That whole thing about crossed off tasks being the real stressor, I once kept a list so long I added "cross off old items" to it just to feel productive. Limiting to three sounds terrifying at first because you worry you'll forget something, but honestly my brain treats a sticky note like permission to ignore it until Friday. I'm not fully converted yet, but I did learn that calling a list "aspirational" instead of "urgent" does wonders for the 5pm panic.
