Pro tip: my design folder at work dropped from 300 loose files to 40 after I started naming them with a date first
Before I switched, finding a client logo meant scrolling and guessing for 15 minutes, and now it takes about 10 seconds. I started putting the date out front like 2024-05-02_client-logo_rev3, so the whole folder sorts itself, and I want to know if anyone here uses a different naming trick that beats this.
Date first is the move, no question. I did the same thing but threw the client name right after the date, like 2024-05-02_acme-logo_rev3, so I can sort by date or search by client depending on what I need that day. The one thing I'd add is keeping revisions as v1 v2 v3 instead of rev3_final_real_final, because the old finals pile up and you end up right back where you started. My folder went from a junk drawer to something I can actually trust, which honestly surprised me more than it should have.
