My 6 year old folder system finally fell apart and I want to scream
Last Tuesday I opened my main project folder and realized I had 3 different versions of the same logo file and no clue which was the one we actually shipped to the printer. I had been dumping everything into a folder called 'final FINAL v2' for almost 2 years, and when I went to find the source file for a reorder, it took me 45 minutes and 3 searches before I found it buried under a client name I had spelled wrong. I ended up spending my whole afternoon just renaming files and making a real folder tree, which pushed my actual work to Wednesday. Now I keep a simple rule of one folder per project with a 'source' and 'exports' subfolder, but I'm wondering if anyone here has a naming trick that actually sticks after a few months.
Ever tried dating your folders? A buddy of mine adds the year to every folder name like "Acme_Logo_2024" and swears it stopped the duplicate mess for good.
