Everyone swears by auto-sync for design files, but a 3 hour folder mess taught me to keep it off
I know the whole internet says to turn on cloud sync for every design folder and never look back, but I'm here to say that advice cost me almost a full workday. Back in March I had a client handoff due for a logo package, about 40 files plus a couple of font licenses, and my sync tool decided to duplicate the whole folder instead of updating it. So I had two versions of everything, one with my final tweaks and one that was a week behind, and the file names looked identical. I spent 3 hours and 20 minutes going file by file, checking timestamps and opening each one to see which had the real edits. If I had just kept one master folder on my desktop and copied finished files over by hand, I would have been done in 10 minutes. Everyone says syncing saves you time, but it only saves time until it doesn't, and then it eats your whole afternoon. Now I'm wondering if I'm the odd one out here, how do you all keep a single source of truth without trusting the sync to not go sideways?
