Am I the only one who switched from a giant folder tree to 12 top-level folders and finally stopped losing files?
Last month I moved about 2,300 design files out of a huge nested folder tree (some paths were 9 levels deep) into just 12 top-level folders sorted by client name, and it took me two evenings in Denver to finish. The old setup had duplicates in 5 or 6 places and I kept opening the wrong version of a mockup because the path looked close enough. Now every file has one home and I can find a deliverable in under 30 seconds instead of digging for 10 minutes. The thing that made the difference was killing the deep nesting, not adding more tags or search. I also dropped the date prefixes on folder names, since I could never remember if it was 03-14 or 14-03. Curious how many top-level folders you all keep before things start to feel messy again?
