Tried planting clover instead of grass in my front yard this spring

I live in Portland and my lawn was always a patchy mess no matter how much water I dumped on it. So last April I bought a $15 bag of white clover seed and just let it go wild. It's been 4 months now and the yard is full of bees, less watering, and my neighbor actually complimented how green it looks. Has anyone else made the switch and seen a big difference in how much water you use?

Oh wait, you mean your neighbor actually complimented it? That's pretty rare for any yard change honestly. I tried clover a couple years back and my neighbor gave me the side-eye for months until she saw how many butterflies showed up. The water savings are real though, especially in the Pacific Northwest where it rains enough that the clover just does its thing. I still water maybe twice a month during the dry spells, but that's way less than the every other day I used to do for grass.

Switched my back yard over to clover two years ago here in Seattle and it was the best decision ever. I barely water now unless it's been super dry for weeks and the bees love it. My water bill dropped by about 30 percent that first summer compared to before. Plus it stays green even when the grass lawns around here turn brown in August. Just make sure you mow it once or twice a season to keep it from getting too tall and weedy.
