That conversation with my neighbor about solar panels changed my mind
He told me he spent $18k on a system and his electric bill only dropped by $30 a month, which made me realize the upfront cost vs. long-term savings isn't as cut and dry as everyone says. Has anyone else had a real-world experience that made them question the math on residential solar?

That "$18k for $30 savings" is brutal, sounds like my cousin's hot tub that he barely uses.

Eric jackson is right on the money with that hot tub comparison. My neighbor bought one of those fancy ones for $15k and he uses it maybe twice a month in the winter. The electric bill bump alone was about $40 a month and he never even factored that in. At this rate he'll break even on the thing sometime around when his grandkids retire.
