That $180 smart thermostat saved me $340 in a year and I'm still shocked
I bought a smart thermostat about 14 months ago for around $180 after my neighbor in Phoenix kept going on about how much his cut his summer bills. I figured it was mostly hype but my July power bill back then was $410, which felt like a punch in the gut every month. Turns out the thing actually works, my bill dropped to $270 the next July and the app shows I saved about $340 total over the year. But I want to vent about the install, because the wiring in my house was so old the C wire didn't exist and I had to run a new one through the wall myself. Cost me a Saturday and a lot of swearing but it was worth it. Is there anything else that actually pays for itself like this, or did I just get lucky with one gadget?
