Saw a city park in Austin using old tires for a playground border

They cut them in half and buried them to make a soft edge around the mulch. It's a simple way to reuse something that usually ends up in a landfill. Has your town tried anything like that?

Our local library did that with a garden bed. The kids love hopping on the rubber edges, and it looks pretty decent. Honestly a smart fix for a boring border.

Actually saw that at our library too, danieljenkins. It's recycled tire mulch, not a solid rubber edge. Still works great though.

Yeah @ryan_smith37 I'll bet the recycled rubber mulch lasts way longer than wood chips do, plus it doesn't wash away in a rainstorm. Sounds like a win-win for keeping the playground safe and not having to replace it every season.
