My neighbor's solar setup made me question my whole energy plan

Last week I was chatting with the guy two doors down in Austin about his 6 kW rooftop array and the power bill he showed me was $11 for June. I've been putting off panels for 3 years because of upfront cost, but his payback math for tax credits and net metering was way better than I assumed. Has anyone else crunched the numbers recently and found their state incentives shifted the break-even point?

Did he break down how much of that $11 is base fees vs actual usage charges? I keep seeing people post killer bills but the fixed delivery charges can still eat you alive in the summer. Curious if net metering in Texas is actually as good as it looks on paper or if the utility smacks you later with some true-up surprise.
