My eco-friendly compost bin is now a rodent rave

I was so happy with my new compost setup for kitchen scraps. But last night, I saw a bunch of rats having what looked like a feast, and I'm torn between sticking with composting or quitting to avoid the mess. What's the right move when going green brings unwanted guests?

Ugh, my buddy's bin turned into a rat hotel too. @sethh12 is right about locking it down.

Rodent rave is such a perfect way to put it. I had the same thing happen with my compost bin behind the garage. One night I saw a whole family of possums going to town on my veggie scraps. I was ready to give up too but then I got a bin with a tighter lid and started burying the food waste deeper. It's not perfect but it cut down on the party animals a lot. Maybe you can try something like that before you give up on it.

Feel for you with the compost trouble. Watched raccoons throw a full party in my bin last month. Switched to a locked lid model and it slowed them down. Burying scraps deep like you said really helps. It takes some tweaking but you can make it work.
