Last Tuesday in Portland, a client asked me to just chip and haul away a perfectly healthy 80-year-old maple because its leaves were 'messy'.
Honestly, I talked them into a crown cleaning and a mulching plan instead, which felt like a tiny win, but has anyone else had to convince people a living tree is worth more than a clean driveway?

80-year-old maple" just for leaves? That's wild.

Notice this all the time now... we put so much effort into things that don't last. Like people spending a whole weekend pressure washing their driveway just for it to get dirty again. That tree took a lifetime to grow, and we just want the part that falls off every year. Feels like we miss the point a lot.
