I saw a video from someone in Arizona who said their solar panels were basically free after 18 months because their electric bills were like $200 a month in the summer from AC. I think a lot depends on where you live and how much you use electricity. 600 bucks sounds really cheap for a full setup though, was it just a couple panels or something? I've been looking into those little 100 watt panels for my shed and even those are like 150 bucks a pop without the controller.

Honestly I gotta push back a little on those Arizona numbers. Summers there are brutal and that AC is gonna be running nonstop, but $200 a month isn't that extreme for a house with central air. My buddy in Phoenix has a 5kW system on his roof and he's still paying about $40 a month in connection fees and after that billing structure change, it took him closer to 4 years to break even. Those viral "free panels" stories usually leave out the fine print about net metering caps and degradation over time.
