Can we talk about how my brother's bike commute shifted our weekend plans?
My brother started biking to his job last spring, and it's been wild to see the ripple effect. We used to drive everywhere for our Sunday get-togethers, but now we pick spots within biking range from his place. Last month, we had a picnic at a park he can pedal to, and we all brought food in reusable containers. It got us talking about how much gas we save and what else we can cut back on. My mom even started composting after seeing how little trash we had that day. I mean, it's not huge, but watching one person's choice spread through the house makes me think small acts add up. Maybe it's just me, but seeing my brother sweat a bit has made our chats way more about the planet.

Honestly my friend Liam got a bidet last year and his whole friend group ended up buying them too after complaining about his toilet paper savings. Tbh @the_keith it's that same quiet peer pressure thing, where you just see someone doing something simple that makes sense. We all teased him at first, but now four of us have them because he wouldn't stop talking about how much softer it was.

Notice how it changes the family rhythm too, like your Sunday trips becoming more local and planned around his range. That shift to staying closer to home probably makes the time feel different, more intentional maybe. What @the_keith calls silent peer pressure is really just watching someone live their values, and it sticks because it's real, not a lecture. It makes you look at your own routines to see what's just habit versus what actually makes sense. The cool part is it starts with something as basic as a bike, but ends up rewriting little pieces of how everyone does things.

Does your brother realize he's turned into an unpaid eco-consultant for your family? It's impressive how his bike commute made everyone else audit their waste without any effort. I guess peer pressure works better when it's silent.
