Blew past 50 miles of no-car commuting last week without even noticing
I added up my bike and bus trips for September and hit 52 miles without using my car once. That surprised me because I used to drive to a store two blocks away. The real kicker was seeing my gas bill drop by $40 from last month. Has anyone else tracked their own miles and found a number that made them rethink their habits?

My friend Jenna did this exact thing last year and it totally changed how she gets around town. @schmidt.blake, sounds like your buddy Mike had a similar lightbulb moment with the parking thing, because Jenna said the same about her local market. She started out just trying to save a little on gas but ended up tracking 65 miles in one month without her car. The real shocker for her was realizing she could carry a week's worth of groceries in two big reusable bags on her bike rack. She still drives to work most days, but now she never uses the car for errands under 3 miles unless it's raining hard. Honestly, watching her just auto-grab her bike keys instead of car keys has made me rethink my own short trips lately.

My buddy Mike tracked his miles for a whole month last summer and hit 78 without touching his car keys once. He lives in a small town and said the biggest shock was realizing he could bike to the grocery store in the same time it took to find parking in the lot. He ended up selling his second car and splitting the savings with his wife to buy a new grill. Now he brags about it every time we have burgers over there.
