A clogged gutter made me realize I was wrong about rain barrels

I used to think rain barrels were a waste of time and money. But after my gutter got clogged during a storm in March and flooded my basement, I finally installed a 55-gallon barrel to catch the overflow. Has anyone else found a simple fix that changed their mind on something?

That 55-gallon barrel probably saved you way more than it cost, huh? I fought against getting a rain barrel for years because I figured I'd just trip over it and knock myself out, which is pretty much exactly what happened the first week I had mine.

Tripped over it and knocked myself out" - man, that's the exact reason I held off too. I knew I'd be the guy eating pavement in my own yard. Four years I went without one because I didn't trust myself. Finally got one two summers ago. Worth every penny but yeah, I've whacked my shin on it more times than I can count. Never actually hit my head though, so you got me beat there.
