PSA: you don't have to say yes to a logo redesign for $250, and I finally stopped doing it
I was at my kitchen table in Boise last month when a bakery owner emailed me asking to redo her logo plus menus plus signage for $250 total, and she added that she needed it by Friday. I had said yes to stuff like this for 3 months straight and it always turned into 12 rounds of changes, so this time I just replied with a flat no and a link to my real rates. She came back two days later and paid my full price anyway. Turns out the fear of saying no was way worse than the no itself. Anyone else figure out way too late that the cheap jobs cost the most?
Saying no right away feels harsh, but honestly it might cost you more in the long run than just dodging the cheap job. Some folks do take a fast yes as a sign you will fold later, so the flat no can save you a dozen email rounds. The tricky part is not every lowball client is a lost cause, so you have to read the person before you slam the door.
