A dev on my last project called feedback 'just tweaks' and that one phrase cost me 3 weekends
Honestly I used to hear 'quick tweaks' and think great, easy money. Then a guy named Marcus from a startup in Austin sent back a 14 page PDF of 'small notes' and every single one was a redesign. Now when anybody says tweaks I ask for the list in writing first, and if it's longer than one page I quote it as a new round. What phrase from a client instantly makes you reach for the contract?
Had a buddy go through the same thing last year. Client kept saying "just a few small changes" every single call, and by the end he'd rebuilt half the site for free. He finally started replying with "send me the full list and I'll let you know what it costs." Funny how fast the list shrinks when money gets attached to it. For me the killer phrase is "while you're in there." Nothing good ever follows those four words.
