A client in Phoenix made me redo a logo 14 times because her 'spirit animal' changed weekly
Last month I took on a branding project for a wellness coach out in Phoenix. She wanted a logo that matched her "energy" and asked me to send new versions every few days, so I did 14 rounds in three weeks. Round 6 she said the mountain felt too aggressive, round 9 the lotus looked "sad", and round 12 she sent me a photo of a cactus and said "this but softer." I finally asked how we'd know when it was right, and she told me she just waits for the design to "vibe" with her morning tea. I'm still holding the deposit and she wants round 15 by Friday, so do I cut her loose or just keep charging hourly?
14 rounds in three weeks is wild, and the cactus "but softer" line would've broken me. The morning tea thing is the real red flag though, because that's not a brief, that's just her mood that day. You can't design against a target that moves every time she refills her mug. I'd take the deposit, tell her round 15 is the last one included, and put anything after that on a hourly rate she has to approve in writing first.
