That small bakery client paid me with baked goods for a month
I picked up a rebrand project for a local bakery in Austin called Sweet Rise back in March. They seemed nice enough at first, really enthusiastic about getting a fresh look. After the first round of revisions, the owner said cash was tight and asked if I'd take store credit instead. I figured sure, free pastries for a month sounded fine, but after week two they kept pushing for more changes with no end in sight. I ended up with 15 boxes of croissants that I couldn't even give away fast enough. Has anyone else gotten stuck with barter deals that just dragged on forever?

Congrats, you're running the world's most expensive croissant farm now.

Oh boy, that's a classic tale right there. I swear, barter deals sound great until you realize you're basically trading your time for things you never asked for. I had a handyman once pay me in jars of pickled okra, and let me tell you, nobody wants 20 jars of pickled okra no matter how good they are. The real issue is they keep you hopping with revisions because they're not paying real money, so there's no incentive to stop. You end up doing more work for less value while your fridge fills up with stuff you can't even unload on family. Hope you've got a deep freezer and really tolerant neighbors.
You'd think they'd at least offer you some coffee to go with those croissants, but nope, just more pastries you'll be eating for breakfast, lunch, and dinner until you start seeing croissants in your sleep.
