Client asked for 12 revisions on a logo that was fine the first time

Had a client last month who kept nitpicking this logo I made for their bakery. First they wanted the font bigger, then smaller, then a whole different color scheme. After 12 rounds of changes they went back to the very first version I showed them. I charged them for 8 extra hours of revision time but still felt like I wasted my energy. Has anyone else had a client who just can't make up their mind and drags you through endless tweaks?

My first few years freelancing taught me the hard way after a client made me redo a wedding invite layout 7 times before picking the 2nd version. What finally worked was making a simple form at the start where they check off what they want, like "modern" versus "classic" or "bold colors" versus "pastels". That killed most of the back and forth because they had to decide upfront. I also started charging $50 per revision after round 3, which made clients actually think before asking for changes. You should try building a checklist or questionnaire before you start the next project. It saves so much headache.

Wait, did you actually charge them for 8 extra hours? Most designers I know would have capped revisions at 3 or 4 in the contract, so that's honestly a win for you getting paid for all that back and forth. But yeah, next time put a hard limit on how many rounds they get before you start charging per change.
