Caught myself redesigning a logo 8 times for one client before I realized they were just fishing for free options

It clicked when they asked for the 9th version and said “we just want to see what else you can do” - that’s when I knew they had no intention of paying for a final file. Has anyone else wasted weeks on a client who just wanted a buffet of concepts with no commitment?

Eight design versions for free is rough but it’s part of a bigger thing I see everywhere now. People treat services like an all-you-can-eat buffet where they can sample forever without buying a meal. It happens at potlucks too, someone brings a dish and guests pick at it without ever saying thanks or contributing. Same with friends asking for moving help then never offering gas money or pizza. That infinite sampling culture just bleeds into work, turning your effort into someone else’s free browsing session.
