Always figured length didn't matter that much, but that changed my mind.

Nah, I gotta disagree with that. Length matters a ton, it's not just some minor detail you can shrug off. Using the wrong rod changes your whole leverage and wrist action, it'll throw your accuracy off for months if you don't catch it early. I've seen guys burn out their shoulders from fighting the wrong gear for years, thinking it was just "feel" getting worse. Five years is a long time to be that far off, but at least you figured it out now instead of staying in the dark.
