My vacuum hose split open halfway through a job in Denver

It happened last Tuesday on a standard cleaning in Capitol Hill. I was about 20 feet up, and the hose just gave way with a loud pop. Soot went everywhere, all over the client's white living room carpet. I had to shut everything down, tape the hose with duct tape as a quick fix, and finish the job with half the suction. Anyone know a good brand for a heavy duty replacement hose that can take a beating?

Ugh, that's the worst sound! I had a hose blow out on a really dirty fireplace job last winter. My quick fix was the same, just a ton of duct tape. For a permanent fix, I ended up getting a Masterforce hose from Menards. It's got a thicker wall and a steel coil inside. It's held up for me through a whole season of daily use, no kinks or splits yet. In my opinion, it's worth the extra few bucks over the basic ones.

That "thicker wall and steel coil" is exactly what you need. I had a cheap hose that would kink and flatten if you looked at it wrong, always cutting off the suction. Switched to one with the internal coil and it's like night and day. You can actually drag it around a corner without it collapsing. The extra stiffness is totally worth it.

Yeah, the "extra few bucks" thing is so true for stuff like this. It feels like everything is made just good enough to sell now, not to last. You pay less up front but then you're fixing it or buying it again in six months. I see it with garden hoses, phone chargers, even basic tools. That cheap price tag is a trick, and it ends up costing more in time and money.
