Dropped $400 on a carbon fiber pole kit and it snapped on my second job in Denver
I thought spending more would mean tougher gear, but that expensive pole folded like a cheap straw when I hit a stubborn cap. What are you guys using that actually holds up to heavy scraping without breaking the bank?

Oh man that stinks. I have been there with expensive gear letting you down at the worst time. It is brutal watching a tool you paid good money for just give out like that. For heavy scraping I have been using a standard steel pole with a good metal head. It is heavier for sure but it has taken some serious hits from frozen ground and old busted pipes without a problem. You might try looking for something with a solid steel core rather than all that fancy lightweight stuff. Some of the aluminum ones in the 50 to 80 dollar range are built tough and won't leave you hanging on a job.

Right there with you @gavinwood, I snapped the handle off a fancy shovel mid-dig on a rocky patch last spring and wanted to throw the whole thing in the trash. Switched to a heavy steel one and haven't looked back since.
