A homeowner in Tacoma told me my creosote report was 'just scary numbers' and it clicked

I used to hand over the sheet with the creosote depth and NFPA codes, but she said it felt like a grade, not a real problem she could picture. Now I take a picture with my phone's flashlight shining down the flue and circle the thick spots right on the photo before I even talk numbers. Do you guys show the actual buildup or just give the measurement?

How do you even argue with "just scary numbers"? That's a really smart fix. I mean, a picture with the flashlight is basically proof, right? It turns an abstract measurement into a thing they can actually see and worry about. I'd probably trust that photo way more than a sheet of paper with codes on it.

That photo trick works for a lot of stuff. I've seen people ignore a smoke alarm chirping for weeks, but a video of the actual smoke gets them moving. Makes the problem real in a way numbers just don't.
