A 30 year sweep in Buffalo told me to stop brushing creosote dry, and he was dead right
Back in 2021 a guy named Ray who had been sweeping in Buffalo for 30 years told me to stop dry brushing glazed creosote and hit it with a chemical first, said it would save me time and a brush. I ignored him for two jobs, burned through a brand new poly brush in one flue and spent 90 minutes scraping what a $30 bottle of powder would have turned to dust overnight. So my question is, what chemical are you all using on stage 3 creosote and how long do you let it sit before you brush?

A powder like that works even better if you mist the flue first so it sticks instead of falling.
