Visited a new bistro in Portland and their plating was all over the place

I stopped by that new spot on 3rd Avenue last weekend and every dish looked like it was thrown on the plate, with sauces smeared and herbs just dropped on top. The server said the chef calls it 'rustic deconstruction,' but it just looked messy and careless to me. Are other places in your cities pushing this style, or is it just a local thing?

Wait, they charged you for that?

Call them and ask for a manager, @jessica_cooper13. I got the same fee removed last month just by explaining it was a simple mistake. Sometimes you just have to be politely firm.

Actually saw a whole article about this exact thing. It said these fees are often automatic and a lot of people just pay them without asking. The advice was pretty much what emmar75 said, to just call and be calm but clear. They usually have the power to reverse it if you ask. Makes you wonder how much they collect from folks who don't say anything.
