The one critique that fixed my knife grip after 10 years

An old line cook at this diner I worked at in Portland watched me chop onions and just said 'your pinch grip is too tight, loosen up.' I thought I had it down but my hand would cramp after 30 minutes of prep. I loosened my grip by maybe 20 percent and started using my thumb knuckle to guide the blade instead. Now I can go a whole shift without my wrist hurting. Has anyone else had a tiny tweak in technique that made a huge difference?

Man that thumb knuckle trick is a game changer, isn't it? I had a similar thing where someone told me to stop choking up so high on the blade and my knuckles stopped getting shredded.
