Spent $200 on a molecular gastronomy kit - what a waste of money and time

I bought one of those fancy kits from a website last year for around $200. Thought I'd make cool foams and spheres for my plates. Used it twice. The agar agar clumped up, the spherification thing barely worked, and all I got was a mess on my station. The recipes were super complicated and not practical for a busy dinner service. I'd rather spend that cash on good knives or a new pan. Has anyone else tried one and actually made it work?

Had a buddy who dropped the same money on one of those kits. He tried making olive oil pearls for a dinner party and ended up with this weird slimy goo all over his counter. The calcium lactate kept crystallizing and he spent like an hour trying to clean it off his spoons. He said the whole thing just felt like a chemistry set that belonged in a lab, not a kitchen.

Cringed at the calcium lactate crystallizing on spoons, that sounds like a nightmare to clean.
