Why does nobody talk about that weird static shock from Berber carpet in dry weather?

I got zapped three times installing a loop pile in Phoenix last month, and my knee kicker kept sticking to the backing. Anyone else have a trick for this besides spraying the pad?

Honestly, that static is the worst part of installing carpet in dry climates. My own hair was standing straight up like a cartoon character last time I dealt with it. A tiny bit of fabric softener diluted in water on a rag can help a little.

My old apartment in Phoenix had that same problem every winter. I tried the fabric softener trick but it made my hands feel sticky, just like mila said. Ended up getting a small humidifier for the bedroom and it was a total game changer. The static was gone in like two days and my skin stopped feeling so dry too.

Have you tried using a humidifier instead? @green.jenny, I find fabric softener leaves a weird film, but adding moisture to the air fixes the static for good. It just works better for me.
