Warning: That "self-storing" trimmer I bought was a total joke
Last Tuesday I installed 400 square feet of carpet in a house in Denver and used my new self-storing trimmer for the first time. The blade kept popping loose every time I tried to retract it, and I wasted 20 minutes on the first room alone. Has anyone else had issues with those retractable models or is it just me?

Oh man, you're braver than me (I tried cutting corners literally once and the carpet ended up looking like a wavy potato chip). Those self-storing trimmers are the worst invention since fold-up scissors that just snap on your first cut. I bought one last spring thinking "genius, no more hunting for the blade guard" and ended up having to tape the dang thing shut with duct tape after it popped loose mid-trim and shot across the garage like a tiny rocket. Your 20-minute struggle sounds like a dream compared to my afternoon of hunting for that spring-loaded piece of garbage behind a lawnmower.

Yeah that's basically the story of every cheap gadget these days, @nathang67.

That tiny rocket part got me, lol. But seriously, how did you even FIND the spring piece after it shot off? Did it hit something or just vanish into the garage black hole?
