Took me 4 hours to figure out why one seam kept showing after every stretch
Last Tuesday I was finishing a 12x15 bedroom in a rental over on Foster Rd and I had one seam right at the doorway that kept peeking open no matter how many times I restretched it. I must have cut that seam back three times, reseamed it, and stretched it again. I was using a power stretcher with a tail block and the whole thing would look tight for a minute and then by the time I got my knee kicker back on it, that same line would ghost through. I finally got down on my hands and knees with a flashlight at floor level and realized the tackstrip on the far wall was 3/8 of an inch short of where it should have been, so the whole room was pulling at a slight angle. Popped in one more strip, restretched once, done in 20 minutes. Four hours for a fix that took less time than my lunch break. Any of you ever chase a seam and it turns out the problem was something dumb like the strip on the other side of the room?

Man that angle pull will get you every single time. I had one last month where the seam kept bubbling and I swore it was the stretch, turned out the strip was nailed into a floor vent register and the whole run was flexing. Same deal, two hours of cussing over a 10 minute fix. That floor level flashlight trick is the real move, saves your knees and your sanity.
